Flu Shots

The pharmacy is still the heart of our business.

About the flu shot

A flu shot is the best way to protect yourself and your family from the flu. Flu season lasts from approximately October to May, and London Drugs typically offer flu shots beginning in September and available until February.

London Drugs Certified Injection Pharmacists can also ensure you're up-to- date with any other vaccinations you may require, such as the vaccinations for shingles, tetanus, HPV (human papilloma virus), pneumonia, and hepatitis A & B.

*Subject to vaccine availability by location and differing provincial immunization regulation. Immunization fees may apply.

How will you benefit from a flu shot?

The Public Health Agency of Canada recommends the flu shot for everyone over the age of six months, since some of the most serious flu viruses can pose a risk even to young, healthy people. Please note that certain groups should not get vaccinated. You can refer here for more information: http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/im/iif-vcg/gs-pg-eng.php. Also, it's important to note that flu virus strains around the globe are constantly changing and annual vaccine production is based on the most active virus expected in the coming flu season.

What to know before getting your flu shot

The flu shot does not cause the flu. Injectable flu vaccines do not contain any live virus - so they cannot cause the flu. The side effects of vaccines are usually minor. The most common side effects are mild fever, irritability, and pain, soreness, or redness at the place where the vaccine was given. These side effects usually go away in a day or two and can be managed. Serious side effects are extremely rare - less than one in a million doses of the vaccine. If they do occur, these reactions can be treated.

How to book a visit

Flu shots are available at all London Drugs locations. Call your local London Drugs to ask when and where you can attend. Fees may apply. Ask if you qualify for a free flu shot or other recommended vaccine.
