Covid-19 Information for Alberta

Make the most of your health and wellness.

Updates for Alberta – April 1, 2026

Spring COVID-19 vaccine boosters will be available starting April 7, 2026.

An additional provincially funded (free) COVID-19 vaccine dose is available AT THE PHARMACY for the following Alberta residents with a valid Alberta Health Services Card who are at increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19 infection. *Must be at least 3 months from a previous COVID-19 vaccine dose

  • Adults 80 years of age or older

  • Adults 65 to 79 years of age with underlying medical conditions that place them at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 infection.

  • Adult residents of long-term care homes and other congregate living settings for seniors

  • Individuals 12 years of age or older who are moderately to severely immunocompromised (due to an underlying condition or treatment*).

  • Available at public health only: Children 6 months to 11 years of age who are moderately to severely immunocompromised (due to an underlying condition or treatment*).

Private-pay COVID-19 vaccines may be available for purchase at the pharmacy. Many private insurance providers will provide partial or full coverage. Please contact the pharmacy to confirm vaccine availability.

  • Speak to a pharmacy team member for help scheduling an appointment

  • Walk-in requests may be accommodated subject to availability.

COVID-19 mRNA vaccine options (subject to availability)

  • Moderna Spikevax LP.8.1 (publicly funded free or private-pay)

  • Pfizer Comirnaty LP.8.1 (private pay only)

If you have not received any COVID-19 vaccine since October 2025, a dose is recommended for the following groups and a provincially funded dose may also be received at the pharmacy for Alberta residents with a valid Alberta Health Services Card.

  • Eligible healthcare workers

  • All residents of continuing care homes and seniors supportive living accommodations

  • Homebound home care clients

  • Individuals 6 months of age and older with underlying medical or immunocompromising conditions. If under 12 years of age, please contact Alberta Health Services.

  • Individuals experiencing homelessness

  • Individuals 65 years of age and older receiving the Alberta Seniors Benefit

  • Teachers

  • Minors under 18 years of age require written or verbal consent from a parent or guardian

To receive a COVID-19 Vaccine at the pharmacy **PRIVATE PAY**

  • Must be 12 years of age or older.

  • Patients who do not qualify for a public COVID-19 vaccine, may choose to pay for the vaccine. Private insurance providers may provide partial or full coverage. A prescription is not required.

  • Please contact the pharmacy to confirm vaccine availability.

National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommendation:

Beginning in the fall of 2025, COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for previously vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals at increased risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection or severe COVID-19 disease as follows:

  • All adults 65 years of age and older

  • Those 6 months of age and older who are:

  • Residents of long-term care homes and other congregate living settings

  • Individuals with underlying medical conditions that place them at higher risk of severe COVID-19, including children with complex health needs

  • Pregnant women and Individuals who are pregnant

  • Individuals in or from First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities

  • Members of racialized and other equity-denied communities

  • Healthcare workers and other care providers in facilities and community settings.

All individuals (previously vaccinated and unvaccinated) 6 months of age and over not in the preceding list may also choose to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. However, children under 12 years old must make an appointment at public health.
