Updates for Alberta – Oct 1, 2025

Public COVID-19 vaccines are not available in pharmacies this year. Eligible patients must make an appointment with Alberta Health Services and appointments will start on October 1, 2025. Restrictions apply. For information visit: COVID-19 info for Albertans | Alberta.ca

Private COVID-19 vaccines are available for purchase at the pharmacy. Many private insurance providers will provide partial or full coverage. Speak to a pharmacist to test your insurance plan. Online booking link above.

Note that public flu vaccines are permitted to start on October 20, 2025. You may choose to receive a COVID-19 vaccine during the same appointment. A fee will apply for the COVID-19 vaccine.

COVID-19 mRNA vaccine options (subject to availability)

To receive a public (free) COVID-19 vaccine AT ALBERTA HEATH SERVICES individuals must be:

  • Healthcare workers

  • All residents of continuing care homes and seniors supportive living accommodations

  • Homebound home care clients

  • Individuals 6 months of age and older with underlying medical or immunocompromising conditions

  • Individuals experiencing homelessness

  • Individuals 65 years of age and older receiving the Alberta Seniors Benefit

  • Minors under 18 years of age require written or verbal consent from a parent or guardian

To receive a COVID-19 Vaccine at the pharmacy **PRIVATE PAY**

  • Must be 12 years of age or older

  • Public (free) COVID-19 vaccines are not available in community pharmacies this year.

  • Patients who do not qualify for a public COVID-19 vaccine, may choose to pay for the vaccine. Private insurance providers may provide partial or full coverage.

  • Online booking

  • Speak to a pharmacy team member for help scheduling an appointment

  • Walk-in requests may be accommodated subject to availability.

National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommendation:

Beginning in the fall of 2025, COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for previously vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals at increased risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection or severe COVID-19 disease as follows:

  • All adults 65 years of age and older

  • Those 6 months of age and older who are:

    • Residents of long-term care homes and other congregate living settings

    • Individuals with underlying medical conditions that place them at higher risk of severe COVID-19, including children with complex health needs

    • Pregnant women and Individuals who are pregnant

    • Individuals in or from First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities

    • Members of racialized and other equity-denied communities

    • Healthcare workers and other care providers in facilities and community settings.

All individuals (previously vaccinated and unvaccinated) 6 months of age and over not in the preceding list may receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
